BY HARPERS FERRY TYPE 2 WITH BAYONET. Cal. 52. NSN. Standard configuration with 32 5/8" barrel held by three pinned on bands, barrel, action and furniture are finished in brown lacquer. Case hardened breech block is marked "J.H. HALL" "H. FERRY" "US" "1837". American walnut stock is unmarked. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: rifle comes with scarce socket bayonet with 16" triangular blade. Special mounting ring has unique cut to slip over offset front sight, found only on this model. CONDITION: extremely fine retaining over 90% brown lacquer on barrel, action and furniture with only a few scratches and marks, mostly on buttplate. Tilting breech block retains nearly all of its case hardening color with only a few flint strikes on face of frizzen. There are no noted cracks in stock which retains most of its original finish and has had extra oil rubbed in over a fair number of heavy marks around breech. Bore is very fine, bright and shiny. Mechanically fine. Bayonet has been cleaned to gray brown overall with some marks and light pitting. PROVENANCE: From the Lifelong Collection of Glen E. Mattox. (01-22467/MGM). ANTIQUE. $4,000-6,000.
