BEADED DECORATED TIPI BAGS. Each about 18" x 10" x 5" tanned leather, totally beaded faces, and sides made with geometric design of whiteheart red, greasy yellow, sky blue, & green beads with thick dark blue bars on white ground. Additional ornamentation with dyed horsehair and tinkle cones. Mr. Mattox tag states circa 1890. Palette and design points towards Central Plains, at least one similar bag is identified as Cheyenne. Similar bags are found several institutional collections, it's rare to find a matched pair especially in such fine condition as these. CONDITION: fine, appears complete, supple, minor staining & soiling. PROVENANCE: From the Lifelong Collection of Glen E. Mattox. (02-18733/JS). $1,500-2,500.
