RIFLE & BAYONET. Cal. 58. NSN. Standard configuration of the popular brass mounted Civil War rifle, 33" blued barrel marked at breech "1863” & “V” / “P” & eaglehead proofs. "STEEL" & inspector “HSL” left side. 2-leaf 3-position rear sight and saber bayonet lug. Case colored lock stamped with eagle and “REMINGTON’S / ILION, NY” and “1863 at tail. Brass furniture and straight grain stock with 2 crisp inspector cartouches. CONDITION: Fine to excellent overall, complete & matching, retains 95% plus original bright blue, 60-80% dark strong case colors on lock and hammer. Stock is fine, crisp cartouches, scattered cosmetic blemishes. Mechanically fine with bright shiny rifled bore. Matching bayonet and scabbard are very fine, bright shiny blade, leather sound with craquelure. (01-22816/JS). $2,250-3,250.
