SHIPPED BEGINNING OF WORLD WAR II AS INDICATED BY COLT LETTER. Cal. 45 ACP. S# 753191. Per the complementing Colt Factory letter, this pistol was 1 of 1000 shipped December 10th, 1941 to the Commanding General at Springfield Armory in Springfield, MA ; just 2 days after The United States declare war on Japan & 1 day before declaring war on Germany. This pistol falls within S# block 721,977 to 756,733. This pistol was apart of Colt's O.O. 772/872 contract signed in Sept. 5th, 1941. where Colt was ramping up M1911A1 pistol production for wartime demand. This pistol exhibits most of the correct S# block features according to "U.S. PISTOLS & REVOLVERS 1909-1945" by J.C. Harrison (2003's 4th printing). These features include the following. Boxed "W.B." Waldemar Broberg inspection proof on left side of frame & boxed "R.S." Robert Sears inspection proof on top of frame opposing ejector plate. While a few reference books state that Colt implemented "Coltrock" grips from S# 730,000-785,000, Colt most likely would have used available parts as the U.S. Ordnance suddenly needed large quantities of pistols very quickly as this pistol was ready to be shipped out. Magazine has very good original parkerized finish with scattered scratches & marks along with scattered small spots of oxidation. CONDITION: very fine with over 85% original parkerized finish.
