MODEL 1903 BOLT ACTION MILITARY RIFLE. Cal. 30-06. S# 1137963. Bbl. 24" marked behind front sight "SA", flaming bomb, "10-19". This correctly featured rifle was mfg. in 1919 and retains a large degree of its original finish with crisp markings. Ladder rear sight without volley notch graduated to 2850 yards. Dished windage and elevation knobs. Blade front sight. Straight down bolt handle. Bolt is marked "C 13" on front edge of safety lug. Cutoff polished bright on underside. Very nice "S" type straight grip walnut stock with two recoil bolts. Stock marked on left side over trigger with boxed "W.J.S.". The initials are those of William J. Sheriffs, civilian employee of the ordnance dept. and worked at Springfield Armory between the years of 1918 and 1922. Stock is marked "S" in cutoff recess. Encircled "P" proof under grip and small "16" assembly mark. Additionally is marked "2" ahead of trigger guard. Smooth trap buttplate and smooth narrow trigger. Correct leather Model 1907 sling marked "L-FCO 1918". CONDITION: stock retains a very large degree of its original finish with only light wear and scattered tiny handling marks. Metal retains 90% original wartime blue finish with light wear. Very good shiny bore. PROVANANCE: the Collection of Curtis H. Halvorson. (23-5936/RW). CURIO. $400-600.
