GAME GUN RETAILED BY L. CHRISTOPHE. Cal. 12 ga. 2 3/4". S# 2172. Louis Christophe was known for providing best quality guns to his customers, mostly made by others such as Jules Bury and the Defourneys. This very high quality gun has 26 3/4" dovetailed bbls. fitted with matted game rib. The number "1" is gold inlaid at rear of rib. Tops of bbls. are engraved "L. Christophe" "Bruxelles". Bbl. flats are stamped with 1941 Belgian Nitro proofs for 2 3/4" chambers. Bottoms of bbls. are stamped with steel type, serial number, and choke information. Maker's mark (JB?) is incompletely stamped on bottom of right bbl. Coin finished robust sidelock action features automatic safety, hidden third fastener, bushed strikers, and double triggers (front articulated). Action and lockplates are engraved with near full coverage classic British type rose and scroll. "1" is in gold on top lever. Trigger guard is engraved to match action. Straight grip European walnut buttstock of dense well marbled and stump figured European walnut measures 14 7/8" over checkered wood butt. Nicely carved drop points are behind lockplates and closely spaced point pattern checkering is at grip. Matching splinter ejector forend has "1" gold inlaid on tip which holds Anson release button. MEASUREMENTS: BBLS: Bore Diameter: R .721", L .729". Restriction: R .014" (LIGHT MOD), L .023" (MOD). Min. Wall Thickness: R .020", L .025". STOCK: DAH: 2 1/16". DAC: 1 3/8". LOP: 14 7/8". CAST: approx. 3/8" off. WEIGHT: 6 lb. 12 oz. CONDITION: very fine as lightly refinished. Bbls. retaining over 95% good quality reblue. Action with cleaning to brightened coin finish, engraving remains clear. Engraving on trigger guard shows considerable wear at grip. Stocks retain nearly all of a professional oil refinish with a few scattered light marks and three fairly deep scratches on left side of comb. Checkering appears to have been competently recut. Bores are bright and shiny and without noted problems except for evidence of professional dent removal in right bbl. about 6" from muzzle. Action is tight. Bbls. are on face. Ejectors are in time.
