BORE SIDELOCK GAME GUN. Cal. 12 Ga., 2 3/4". S# 221. Made w/ 29” fluid steel bbls. of chopper lump construction w/ high flat plain rib & brass front bead. Breech end lightly scroll engraved w/ gold inlaid “2” on top rib. Bbl. flats w/ proper French proof marks & makers name ”A. Chapu / Paris”. Splinter forend checkered in point pattern w/ diamond at center has rose & scroll engraved iron & made w/ Anson type push button release. Interior of iron finely blued w/ engraved screw. Purdey sidelock action w/ side clips is very finely rose & scroll engraved & looks just like an early Purdey. Gun made w/ dbl. triggers, (front trigger articulated), auto ejectors, non auto safety. Top of action w/ beaded bbl. bolsters & blued top lever which are all nicely rose & scroll engraved. Top lever w/ gold ”2” & gold inlaid “S” in front of safety button & top tang are nicely scroll engraved. Diamond shaped straight hand English butt stock is checkered in point pattern through the wrist w/ rose & scroll engraved trigger guard. Butt w/ 2 1/4” black in color wood extension which is checkered at butt. Measurements: Right: .726", choke .047(extra full). Left: .729", choke: .021"(light mod). Minimum wall thickness: Right: .021", left: .016". DAC: 1 1/4”. DAH: 1 1/2”. Weight: 6 lbs., 14 oz. CONDITION: excellent as partially restored. Bbls. retain almost all of a competent professional rust blue finish. Forend is very good, checkering thinned but mostly all present w/ a sm. chip at muzzle end of left side otherwise sound. Case hardened action retains 40% of its original color. Buttstock is sound & retains most of a professional finish w/ checkering thinned at grip area. Bores are mostly bright & shiny. Mechanics are crisp though the gun does have a very slight hint of looseness at the hinge. Very interesting copy of Londons most famous maker which at first glance absolutely appears to be a Purdey.
