EARLY HISTORY OF THE WRIGHT BROTHERS. Consignor states items were purchased from the sale of the Norm Flayderman Aeronautical Collection in November of 2000. 1). Original 1912 copy of the Wright Company catalog which is entitled "Wright Flyers". The company maintained offices in Dayton, Ohio and New York. The directors names included noted individuals as August Belmont and Cornelius Vanderbilt. The catalog gives a brief history of the Wrights and their company plus details the aircraft models B, C and D. The company also offered a hydroplane. The engines offered at this time were 4 and 6 cylinder inline models. The company also offered a flying school and interestingly the students were not charged with any breakage of the aircraft. CONDITION: The soft covered catalog has 8 pages and measures approximately 8" X 5 1/2". The catalog has light wear and staining. The first page is partly detached. 2). Seven preserved pages of "THE WORLD" newspaper. The dateline reads in part, "NEW YORK, SATURDAY, DECEMBER 19, 1903". On page 4 there is an article entitled, "FLYING MACHINE SUCCEEDS ON TRIAL". Dispatched from Norfolk, VA the article praises the "flying machine" in its ability to navigate against the wind and be steered at will. Flying at an altitude of 60' the machine maintained an even speed of 8 miles an hour. CONDITION: the newspaper pages have a notable loss of paper at the edges and the expected yellowing of vintage newsprint. The article mentioned however is complete and legible. The pages are mounted on archival poster stock. 3). Picture signed by Orville Wright entitled, "First Man - Flight, December 17, 1903 / Kitty Hawk, N.C. Picture shows the flight on that date with Orville at the controls and his brother, Wilbur, running along side. 3 1/4" X 5" picture has been matted and mounted in a pleasing brown colored hardwood frame. Signature in right corner is fully legible. CONDITION: picture matting and frame are in very nice condition. Frame has several tiny handling marks. 4.) Poster commemorating the 13th Anniversary of the first successful heavier than air machine flight. Poster is from Associated News Service and dated July 24, 1922. The poster has a divided picture showing the early Wright Flyer at the top and the other picture in an inset at the bottom shows a slightly later model of the Wright aircraft though still in the original canard configuration. The plane is being pushed into a wooden hangar and interested persons in the foreground are listed as Alice Roosevelt Longworth, Nicholas Longworth and Major Squires. Black and white poster is mounted in a very heavy frame measuring approximately 17" X 20". CONDITION: poster and frame in very good condition. PROVANANCE: paperwork consisting of 4 sheets detailing the loan of these items to Dayton Aviation Heritage National Historical Park. Items are dated 2001 and 2002. (02-25134/RW). $400-1,000.
