1) USMC 3rd DIVISION COMBAT MESSAGES of CPL. GEORGE H. COOK. Contained in a 1" 3 ring binder are 18 combat messages from the late stages of the Battle of Guam in August of 1944. Including messages concerning the slow progression of advance, friendly arty notices, enemy casualty reports from squads, USMC stationary and more.2) US MAE WEST INSCRIBED LIFE PRESERVER WORN BY CPL. LARRY INGALLS. CPL. Ingalls wore this life vest after his C47 the Lana Turner crash landed in the Pacific Oct. 22 1942. The C47 was shelled by a Japanese 155mm as it took off from Henderson Field on Guadalcanal in the Solomon Islands. In addition to the crew there were 15 Marines, 5 Army Air Corp, and 5 Navy personnel. The shelling knocked out the radio and after being caught in bad weather the plane was forced to land on a submerged reef. CPL. Ingalls was able to get the radio operational again and the crew and passengers were rescued after 10 days with 1 gallon of water and no food. The vest is inscribed "FROM THE LANA T / C-47 118592 (6V293 / down at 163 E 18 15 S / on Oct. 22, 1942 / Lt. Petty / Lt. E _ _ _ / Cpl. _ _ _ / Cpl. Ingalls" An article was written by one of the Marines on board and was published in the Dec 1959 edition of Argosy. CONDITION: very good with the ink fading from age.3) 3 ARMY K RATIONS.
