CURVED BLADE. Overall length: 16". Blade length: 12 1/8". Massive curved blade has a false edge extending 3 5/8" back from the tip. Blade is etched over 3/4 of its length with various foliate motifs and a spray of arms featuring a flag, Liberty cap on pole, American shield and other arms on 1 side. The opposite side features another spray of arms with Liberty cap on pole, drum, cannon and various other arms. Gilded brass hilt with beautifully articulated crossguard featuring leaves/ostrich feather on either side of the grip. 1 Side of the crossguard is pierced to accept the chain guard that leads to the pommel. Pommel cap is adorned with oak leaves that extend partway down the backstrap. Beautiful, carved and shaped, certifiably antique ivory. Gilded brass mounted leather sheath. Suspension rings are present. CONDITION: blade has a light to medium gray patina. Etching is quite easily observed. Hilt retains approximately 40% of its original gilding overall. Grip has a small age crack and a few minute flakes. Sheath is quite strong with minimal flaking. The 3 mounts retain most of their original gilded finish. (02-17478/BF). $2,000-3,000.
