Bbl. 4 1/2" marked "OFFICERS MODEL 38" (4 1/2" barrel listed as available 1908 to early 1926 on 2nd. issues) with elevation adjustable Patridge sight blade plus 1926 last patent date as used on 3rd. issues; frame mounted windage adjustable rear sight. Third issue mfg. 1937 with special features plus checkered trigger and hammer (polished sides). Remaining surfaces with normal bluing, including butt, uncheckered front strap and trigger guard area. Optional smooth walnut grips with silver Colt medallions; grips changed to Coltwood in 1949. Markings on barrel also bordered by Maltese cross symbols as done 1930-1949. Period of most available barrel variations was 1932-1939 per Wilson's book on Colts.
