Cal. 7.65mm. S# 3917. Bbl. 3 3/8". According to Ed Buffalo, author of the Unblinking Eye, Bergmann is thought to have produced only 200 examples in the 3788-3988 S# range, this gun squarely within that group. This double action external hammer blowback pistol is reminiscent of the Walther PPK with the left side of the slide marked with a 3-line address reflecting production in Suhl. On the top left of the slide is a safety, a red dotted indicator reflecting the fire position. The left side of the frame, behind the trigger, is marked with the full S# "3917", the last 2-digits marked inside the slide and on the left side of the trigger. Crown/N proofs on the right side of the bbl., right side of slide behind the serrations, and on the right tang. Fitted with a 2-piece hard rubber grip, each panel with the word "Spezial" in a trapezoidal box surmounting a finely checkered bordered field. Mag., with 2 elongated indicator slots and folds to retain the floorplate, is unmarked. MAGS: 1 8-rd. CONDITION: near excellent as professionally refinished now with approx. 95%+ finish showing muzzle and sharp edge wear as one might expect from a lightly carried pistol. Comparable condition grips with close inspection showing minor repair along the mating surfaces of the back strap. Excellent mag. Bright bore with light etching. Correct manual mechanics. An unusual and difficult to obtain Bergmann, regardless of condition, as production was limited to 200 pistols. (25-3434/LMA). CURIO. $2,000-3,000.
