Cal. 38 Spl. S# 3478LW. Possibly Colt's scarcest revolver. 1,089 were mfg. in 1951. The Pentagon ordered the entire production destroyed & very few have survived. The alloy cyl. proved to be too weak for certain 38 Spl loads. Bbl. 2" w/ serrated ramp sight. Six shot cyl. Frame, cyl. & trigger are alloy. Steel hammer has polished sides. Checkered walnut grips w/ Air Force medallions. Backstrap is roll marked "PROPERTY OF U.S. AIR FORCE". Butt is marked "A.F. NO. 1080". Right side of bbl. is marked "AIRCREWMAN / .38 SPECIAL CTG.". UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: letter from Colt Industries detailing the following information, "Serial Number: 3478LW / Caliber: .38 special / Barrel Length: 2" / Finish: Blue / Type of Stocks: Checkered Walnut / Shipped To: 831st Air Force Specialized Depot Shelby, Ohio For: Commanding Officer / Date of Shipment: November 29, 1951 / Number of Same Type Guns in Shipment: 25". USAF marked black leather shoulder holster is in very good condition. TM9-2027 ordnance manual included. CONDITION: frame & cyl. retain 80% lightly worn black finish showing wear spots on edges & cyl. w/ cyl. drag line. Bbl. blue shows muzzle wear. Grips have moderately worn checkering.
