LIGHT TAKEDOWN LEVER ACTION RIFLE WITH A MULTITUDE OF SPECIAL ORDER FEATURES. Cal. 25-35. S# 62232. Bbl. 26" tapered octagon to round. Top of bbl. has rare full length matting. It is noted by Bert Hartman in his survey of available 1894 records (1-353,999) that only 43 Model 94 Winchesters were produced with a 1/2 octagon to round matted bbl. That alone would make this an exceptionally rare Winchester however, this rifle was also manufactured as a takedown with checkered pistol grip stock, extra light bbl., 1/2 magazine AND chambered in the desirable 25-25 as confirmed by the Cody Firearms Museum. Ramp mounted sporting front sight w/ elevator adj. sporting rear sight. Half-length takedown mag. Blue finish w/ case colored hammer & lever. Hard rubber capped pistol grip buttstock is correct style replacement with style "H" checkering and is stamped "94 / T / 6416" Renickeled buttplate bears same number as stock. Left inside of lower tang is stamped w/ assembly no. 3403 followed by XXX wood grade marking. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: letter from the Cody Firearms Museum detailing the following information, "Type: Rifle / Caliber: 25/35 / Barrel Type: 1/2 Octagon / Extra Light / Trigger: Plain / Checkered stock, Pistol grip / Sights: Sporting front and rear / 1/2 Magazine / Takedown / Matted / Received in warehouse on August 17, 1899 / Shipped from warehouse on August 14, 1899, Order number 32610 (dates as per record)". CONDITION: very good original condition retaining over 80% original blue showing edge wear & light fading w/ scattered spots of corrosion. Wood shows moderate finish & checkering wear w/ numerous scratches, marks & small dents. Toe of stock is chipped & has a glued repair. Action is sound. Bore retains strong rifling. (24-2580/DS). CURIO. $11,000-15,000.
