SHOTGUN. Cal. 12 Ga. 2-3/4". S# 425559. Most cut-away guns are made by a machinist without much to do on a rainy Saturday afternoon. The guns are usually well worn and the machined openings are bright. This gun was obviously made by the factory as a cut-away. Case hardening color is on sides of milled out openings and factory roll die information is not on cut-away side and gun is in unfired condition. This gun can possibly still be safely fired as barrels are not compromised. They measure 30" and are marked "SMOKELESS POWDER STEEL" "MADE IN THE U.S.A.". Barrel flats are stamped with S#, chamber length and chokes ? "4". Case hardened early (1926) NID action has cocking indicators on top and is fitted with automatic safety. Right side of action has rolled on Ithaca dog and info along with deeply cut eight pointed star. There are no traces of engraving or markings on left side of action. Matching stars are on bottom of action and trigger guard bow. Stump figured American walnut capped pistol grip buttstock has left side of action area cut away to view workings of hammers, cocking rods, safety, etc. The point pattern checkering at left side of grip has truncated points that purposely do not extend into machined openings. Matching splinter forend with Deeley release also has stock cut away on left side to view mechanism. Internal parts are nicely polished. MEASUREMENTS: BBLS: Bore Diameter: L .728. R .728. Restriction: L .037 (full). R .036 (full). Wall thickness: L .038. R .036. STOCK: DAH: 2-11/16". DAC: 1-3/8". CAST: neutral. LOP: 14-1/4". WEIGHT: 7 lb. 7 oz. CONDITION: exceptionally fine; retaining nearly all factory finishes on wood and metal. Most likely unfired. There are only a few handling and assembly marks found. Bores are bright and shiny. Mechanically fine. (25-224/MGM). CURIO. $2,500-4,500.
