RIFLE. Cal. 6.5 Jap. S# 11456. Bbl. 31". Blade front sight. Rear sight graduated to 2000m. A very rare pre-WWI Japanese Navy rifle with a sliding dust cover similar to Siamese Mausers. The receiver top has a fully intact mum and Type 35 markings. Left side of the receiver has the Tokyo Arsenal symbol. Bayonet lug, floorplate, and rear sight parts have assembly number "73". Other visible parts appear unnumbered or have different assembly numbers. Right rear dust cover tab is broken off. Asian hardwood stock set with two-piece butt construction and bottom-mounted sling swivels. Underside of the pistol grip has a Kure Navy Base anchor stamp. A cleaning rod is present. CONDITION: left side of the wrist has a 3" crack; the rear of the handguard shows a notable chip and a couple cracks. Stock set otherwise shows an arsenal rework finish with a few small cracks, a few chips, scattered dings, and handling wear. Metal retains 40% of its arsenal blue with a few dings, overall fading to gray, scattered edge wear, and oxidation. Fair bore with scattered oxidation & frosting, but good rifling.
