CHILD'S CRIB. 1st quarter 19th century, New York. Ex-John Walton. This high quality example with peaked head and foot boards, each with scrolled crest rail and joined to swelled fluted and ring-turned posts surmounted by beautifully carved acorn finials. The high sides are fashioned with delicate, yet sturdy turned spindles. One side is hinged, affording easy access to the interior. The crib retains an old mattress which rests on wood slats. The crib is raised on ring-turned cylindrical legs with ringed cuffs, and terminating in original brass capped casters. This is an extremely rare form of furniture for this period. PROVENANCE: Purchased from John S. Walton, Inc. in 1960, accompanied with this lot is an original Bill of Sale from Walton. SIZE: 57 1/2" h x 48 1/2" l x 31" w. CONDITION: generally very good to excellent, but one latch is missing and needs a small repair. (05-219/JJ). $1,250-2,750.
