ACTION SRC. Cal. 45-70. S# 33801. Bbl. 22 1/2". Blade front sight. Ladder rear sight graduated to 1000yds. One of only 1,561 3rd model Hotchkiss saddle ring carbines made w/ most production going overseas & no known US purchasers. Per Jim Curlovic, he has only seen 7 of these carbines in the U.S. Flayderman refers to this model as "Very rare". This example has been nicely restored. Left side of receiver has saddle bar w/ ring. Upper tang marked "MODEL OF 1883". Lower tang has several patent markings the last date being "JAN 22 1877". Walnut stock set. Upper tang is proud of wood. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: factory letter stating that the gun was indeed a carbine & it shipped from the warehouse on August 20th, 1884. Also included are a handwritten summary of the gun & its features & two typed summaries of the gun & its rarity. CONDITION: stock appears lightly refinished w/ a couple small chips, a few spots of flaking. some scattered dings & handling marks. Action retains 95% nicely restored case colors. Balance of metal retains 95% restored blue w/ a few spots of blued over pitting. Bore has an internal bulge about halfway down & some scattered pitting. (01-23404/MJC). ANTIQUE. $2000-3000.
