BLACK DIAMOND TRAP GRADE PUMP SHOTGUN. Cal. 12 ga. 2 3/4". S# 505746. Bbl. 30" of stainless steel w/ milled ventilated rib. Red target front sight w/ steel mid bead. Action has duckbill extension & is marked "trap" below S#. Beavertail extension forearm shortened to standard target length. Small hard rubber capped pistol grip stock of fancy walnut w/ trap grade checkering having black diamonds on both sides on wrist. LOP: altered to 13 11/16" over a Noshoc solid red pad. Mfg. 1927. Stainless steel bbls. were offered for all models beginning in 1925. They were offered for a very short time for an extra charge of nine dollars. They were finished w/ Japan black (lacquer) that did not hold up well & thus never became popular. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: includes a 5 page handwritten letter from George Madis, author of the Winchester Book. George states that he carefully examined this Winchester M12 stainless steel trap, serial number 505746. The last 4 paragraphs state the following: “It is this writers opinion this shotgun was an experimental model, made to test machining of the model twelve stainless barrel. Stainless steel barrels are very rare; the ultimate rarity is a band of stainless steel with a stainless rib. Very special fancy checked walnut, special dimensions, and recoil pad with the other specials all combine to make this a unique Winchester. Number 505746 will be an outstanding gun in any collection or museum.” CONDITION: bbl. & vent rib are polished bright. Action & mag. assembly retain 98% reblued finish. Shortened forearm & stock have very good refinish w/ recut checkering. Sound mechanics. Very good bore. PROVENANCE: The estate collection of Don "Duck" Combs. (24-2525/DS). CURIO. $2,000-3,000.
