GERMAN WW1 GEWEHR 98 MAUSER BOLT ACTION MILITARY RIFLE. Cal. 8mm Mauser. S# 2345. All visible numbers match. Bbl 29 1/4". Lange rear sight graduated to 2000 meters. Inverted V front sight. Nice original matching example of WW1 Gewehr 98 infantry rifle dated “1911” w/ crisp markings & original sling. Receiver ring marked on top “WAFFENFABRIK”, “MAUSER A.-G.” & “OBERNDORF A/N”. Right side of receiver ring has Imperial German proofs. Receiver ring marked on left side w/ “WURTTEMBERG antlers”. Left receiver rail marked in Gothic “Gew. 98.”. Bbl. marked over chamber w/ “S”. All milled furniture. Cleaning rod is present. Walnut stock set. Buttstock w/ flat buttplate is marked on right side w/ 2 royal monograms & unmarked steel marking disk. Marked w/ crown markings at belly & under grip. Sling has original fittings. Non matching steel sight & muzzle protector w/ hinged cap. CONDITION: stock set has moderate wear, staining & handling marks commensurate w/ long & hard service. Notable dents in left side at grip & under rear sight w/ the expected loss of wood around the buttplate in the toe area. Metal has wear, turning overall gray & traces of original blue in protected areas w/ scattered spots of oxidation. Bore has fair worn lands, turning dark in grooves.
