RIFLE. Cal. 22 LR. S# 130842. This beautiful rifle's receiver was engraved by master engraver Carlton Ennis for his wife. Satin finished action features F grade engraving with gold inlaid squirrels on right side and scenes of a beagle and running rabbit on the left side. Scenes are surrounded by vine type foliate scroll engraving that extends to upper and lower receiver areas as well as barrel extension and breech end of barrel. Gold finished trigger and safety. Semi-beavertail forearm and hard rubber capped pistol grip stock w/ aluminum buttplate and fancy black walnut. Stock and forearm have fleur-de-lis hand checkering. Bbl. 24" with sporting sights. Very few model 241s were grade F engraved. The consignor believed this may be the only Carl Ennis engraved M241 with gold inlays. The rifle was not completed to the assembly stage before Carl's death. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: copy of a letter signed by Elaine F Ennis on March 1st, 1990 states the following, "This letter is to confirm that the Model 241 receiver (# 1Co842) I sold to you was probably the last "F" grade gun engraved by my husband, Carleton Ennis. He made this gun for me, but as you know, never quite completed it to the assembly stage. I thought that the gold inlays were particularly well done.". CONDITION: metal parts retain nearly all blue and satin finish. Wood has very good original finish showing a few light scratches & and marks. Sound mechanics. Bright near excellent bore. PROVENANCE: The estate collection of Don "Duck" Combs. (24-2500/DS). CURIO. $15,000-25,000.
