Breech loading deck cannon 13" bbl. appearing cast bronze (or brass) & nonmagnetic stainless. Pin latched breech block. Rear of chamber & breech block marked "N209" plus crown proofs w/ 3 points at top of crown. Distinct anchor on rear of barrel. Marks not visible w/ action closed. Fired by hand cocking striker & releasing spring loaded sear pin. Type of signaling device used on submarines, etc. Marked "CRAMP. S. & E. B. CO. / 25MM / PHILA. PA. U.S.A." Cramp was shipbuilding company in Philadelphia started in 1830 & very active during WW I. It became idle in late 1920's; reactivated for WW II to make submarines & cruisers. Copper lever (#348) to lock swivel. Decorative copper chain added where lanyard to fire would be routed. Attractive walnut base from table lamp. CONDITION: very good appearance; normal casting flaws visible in base & pintle. Fully functional w/ good bore. Replacement of springs throughout would be beneficial. (02-20987/NW).
