FOR CIVIL WAR USE. This is a beautiful example of 2nd model Virginia Manufactory, Richmond, VA saber alteration of slenderizing blade (34”) & remounting in light brass mounted scabbard for modern light cavalry warfare. Unmarked other than an inspector “O” stamped on ricasso. This exact sword is pictured on page 551 “American Swords and Sword Making” by Richard Bezdek” p. 551. CONDITION: very good overall. Gray blade w/ sharpening, iron patina to hilt & scabbard, scabbard retains much of its original black japanned finish, grip retains most of its original leather wrap. PROVENANCE: ex-Charles Radcliffe Collection. (02-14524/JS). $3,000-5,000.
