14 E BOXLOCK SXS SHOTGUN Cal. 12 Ga., 2 3/4". S# 72962 (approx. 1937). Bbls. 29 15/16", have matte raise rib, white beads & doll's head extension. Tops of bbls. engraved "Von Lengerke & Detmold" & "U.S. Agents New York". Appears to have 1937 Belgian proofs on water table. Case hardened boxlock action w/ acanthus scroll engraving having marker's name on each side. Engraving extends to triggerguard bow, portion of rib, forearm iron & top tang. Boxlock action features single trigger w/ selector on top tang, non automatic safety, crossbolt third fastener & ejectors. Patent number "263" present on forearm iron & breech face. Push button splinter forearm & pistol grip walnut stock w/ segmented checkering & checkering at ears. LOP: 13 1/4" to red Hawkins pad. DAC: 1 1/4". DAH: 1 3/4". WEIGHT: 7.48 lbs. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: brown leather Leg-O-Mutton case numbered "902/30" in good condition showing scuffs & flaking finish. CONDITION: good lightly faded blue blending w/ gray patina in carry areas showing muzzle wear, pinprick oxidation & minute marks. Traces of cases colors on receiver in protected areas w/ balance a gray patina. Fair worn wood finish w/ worn checkering w/ some gouges, chips along bbl. channels of forearm, along w/ numerous scratches & impressions on stock. Toe of buttpad shows extensive shaping to buttstock profile. Good shiny bore w/ a few sm. dents in left bbl. PROVENANCE: Estate collection of Thomas F. Wolfinger. (22-6115/MD). MODERN. $600-1,000.
