Cal. 40. NSN. Bbl. 39" oct. measuring 13/16" across flats. Brass blade front sight w/ fixed V notch rear sight. Top flat is marked "W FILLMAN". "American Gunsmith" by Frank Sellers has the following listing "FILMAN, WILLIAM A., Milton, Pennsylvania, 1820-1861d. Flintlock and percussion rifles. (Kauffman).". "ELWELL / WARRANTED" marked engraved trade lock. Side lug bolster. Dbl. set triggers. Pin fastened full length curly maple stock w/ Roman nose comb & cheekpiece. Brass fittings consist of crescent buttplate, toeplate, trigger guard, side plate escutcheon, oct. thimble & 2 oct. pipes. Unusual oct. shaped ramrod. Oval brass tag marked "J.M. DAVIS / 9166 / MEMORIAL" is attached to trigger guard. The JM Davis Firearms Museum in Claremore, OK is home to the world's largest privately held firearms collection. CONDITION: metal has dark patina appearance w/ dents having heavy pitting in breech area. Stock has added finish over wear & handling marks w/ cracks & plastic wood repairs in lock & side plate areas. Forearm is broken & repaired around thimble. Hammer will not hold in cocked position.
