CARBINE BY MASHBURN ARMS CO. WITH SCOPE. Cal. 35 S. Mag. S# NSN. Warren Page was the shooting editor for Field & Stream magazine for a quarter of a century. He was also the author of many books including "The Accurate Rifle". This rifle with Warren Page's name on grip cap has 20" medium weight round barrel fitted with custom quarter rib incorporating front scope base and folding leaf Lyman rear sight. A gold sourdough bead is in matching front ramp. Left rear of barrel is marked "MASHBURN" "ARMS CO." "35 S. MAG". Springfield action has had bolt handle lowered, Buehler safety installed and body engine turned. Cocking piece has been altered to speed lock. A commercial trigger (probably Mashburn) has been installed. Bottom metal has had trigger guard thinned. Barrel and action are engraved with large shaded scroll; receiver ring is stippled. Nickel plated floor plate has full relief rendering of charging grizzly bear in western setting, ribbon below this scene is marked "DAN CLARK, SCP." Full length stock of crotch figured American walnut measures 13 1/2" over black white line pad. Stock style appears to be that of Reinhart Fajen with Monte Carlo comb and Keith design swept right hand cheekpiece. Stock also features steel forend cap, sling eyes and well cut semi fancy pattern checkering at grip and around forend. Plated steel grip cap has engraving that matches the rest of rifle which surrounds folded ribbons engraved "Warren Page" "BY Co." "MASHBURN ARMS" (a well known custom rifle maker from the 50's & 60's that specialized in wildcat magnum calibers). Rifle is fitted with unmarked (probably Weaver) 4X scope with cross hair reticle in "QD" rings that are engraved to match action. CONDITION: exceptionally fine, retaining nearly all custom finishes by Mashburn with a good scattering of marks and dings associated with field use. Bore is bright and shiny. Mechanically fine. Scope is also fine, optically clear. (22-5847/MGM). CURIO. $2,500-6,000.
