GRIP SAFETY. Cal. 38 ACP. S# 62918. Bbl. 5". Webley made very few Model 1910 semi-automatic pistols, fewer than 1,000 to include several different variations. Those with the grip safety, sometimes referenced as the Type I, numbered just over 500, making this internal hammer version of the larger .455 Mark I one of the rarest of the big frame pistols. This standard production Type I has a 5" bbl. with a fixed front sight and a screw fixated horizontally adj. rear sight. The left side of the slide is marked with the winged bullet logo followed by a 3-line address referencing the company locations in London and Birmingham, and caliber. The S# appears on the tang. Usual British proofs on top of the bbl. Frame fitted with a grip safety and button mag. release on bottom of frame that has a fixed lanyard loop extending from the left side. Hard rubber checkered bordered grips, each panel secured with a central screw. Unmarked brushed nickel mag. with 7-indicator holes and a fixed floorplate. MAGS: 1 8-rd. CONDITION: approx. 85-90% bright original Pre-War Webley finish with flaking and sharp edge wear as one might expect from a modestly used commercial gun. The left grip is excellent. The right grip with several surface mars as carefully photographed. VG-EXC original finish mag. Bright bore, minimal oxidation, sharp rifling. Correct manual mechanics. One of the scarcer large frame Webleys to encounter, this example in much better condition than those usually offered, a great addition for the serious Webley collector. (25-3549/LMA). CURIO. $2,500-3,500.
