TARGET / TRAINING PISTOL. Cal. 22 Long. S# 69466. Bbl. 9 1/8". Feeling that the .32 caliber Webley pistols were too expensive to train/practice with, the Metropolitan Police approached Webley & Scott to produce a .22 caliber training pistol that had the same fit and feel as the currently issued Model 1908 pistols. Police issued pistols utilized a 4 1/2" bbl., while commercial pistols utilized a 9" bbl., with approx. 1,400 examples produced. This commercial example is marked with the Webley & Scott winged bullet logo above "W&S", followed by Webley's mfg. information on the left side of the slide., with "22 RIM FIRE.LONG" marked on the right. Small British proofs are present on the frame, slide, and bbl. Metal components exhibit a lustrous blue finish overall, save for on the trigger, trigger guard, and hammer, which exhibit a nickel plated finish. Frame is mounted with 2-piece checkered brown vulcanite grips. Fixed blade front sight, with thin dovetailed U-notch rear sight. All serialized parts are matching and include the frame, trigger, slide, and bbl. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: quality reproduction stock of finely figured wood, with blued steel lug. CONDITION: metal components retain the majority of their original high polish blue finish, exhibiting light to mild edge wear, some small spots of light surface oxidation, as well as scattered superficial marks from handling and storage. Manual ejector shows wear through to gray patina. Near mirror bore, exhibiting some light pitting, while retaining strong rifling throughout. Proper manual mechanics. Grips show some smoothing and scattered superficial marks from handling and storage, with a small chip on the butt of the left panel. Stock is excellent overall. (25-3551/MLW). CURIO. $2,000-3,000.
