LUGER SEMI-AUTOMATIC PISTOL. Cal. 9x19mm. S# 2199m. Bbl. 3 15/16". P.08 Luger originally mfg. by DWM as an LP.08 under contract for the Imperial German military in 1917, subsequently retained under the Treaty of Versailles in 1920, and reworked into a P.08 configuration for police use. The top of the notched bbl. extension is marked "1920/ 1917", with a triad of DWM arsenal proofs and an imperial reichsadler marked on the right (reichsadler repeated on left side of breechblock). Top of the bbl. is marked with an illegible Weimar era eagle proof. Toggle is marked with the intertwined "DWM" monogram logo. Front grip strap is police unit marked "S.Me.IV.II.336." ("IV" X'd out), indicating issue to the Schutzpolizei of the Merseburg District. Metal components exhibit an apparent police arsenal reapplied blue finish overall, with some small parts still retaining their straw finish. Frame is mounted with 2-piece checkered wood grips. Standard dovetailed blade front sight and fixed V-notch rear sight. Left side of bbl. extension is fitted with a Schiwy safety. Nearly all serialized parts are matching and include the frame, takedown lever, sideplate, trigger, safety lever & bar, bbl., bbl. extension, trigger bar, breechblock, extractor, firing pin, toggles, as well as the rear toggle pin. Hold-open latch is mismatched via "26". Grips are unnumbered, with the left panel exhibiting a Mauser "S/42" mfg. code on the interior. MAGS: x1 plated 8-rd. mag., with scrubbed aluminum plug. CONDITION: metal components retain large amounts of their apparent police arsenal reapplied blue finish, exhibiting areas of wear and thinning fading to gray and brown patinas, as well as some scattered superficial handling marks and spots of light pitting present overall. Bright bore, exhibiting light pitting, while retaining good, albeit worn rifling throughout. Proper manual mechanics. Grips show light to mild smoothing, as well as a few impressions from handling and storage, but otherwise remain sound. (25-6080/MLW). CURIO. $800-1,200.
