SEMI-AUTOMATIC PISTOL. Cal. 9x19mm. S# 8472a. Bbl. 3 15/16". P.08 Luger semi-automatic pistol mfg. by DWM in 1921 for police use. Top of the bbl. extension is marked "1921" over the chamber, with Weimar Eagle/WaA4 (Procurement Office 4) proofs marked on the right (single Eagle/WaA4 proof repeated on bbl. and left side of breechblock). Toggle is marked with the intertwined "DWM" monogram. Front grip strap is police unit marked "S.H.517" indicating issue to Schutzpolizei Hannover (Protection Police Hannover District). Metal components exhibit a rust blue finish overall, save for on the takedown lever, trigger, safety lever, and extractor, which exhibit a reheated straw finish. Frame is mounted with 2-piece checkered wood grips. Standard dovetailed blade front sight and fixed V-notch rear sight. Bbl. extension is fitted with a police Schiwy sear safety, with the frame featuring a clipped Walther trigger safety. All serialized parts are matching and include the frame, takedown lever, sideplate, trigger, safety lever & bar, bbl. bbl. extension, trigger bar, breechblock, extractor, firing pin, toggles, as well as the rear toggle pin. Grips are matching via "72" on the interior of the panels, marked below an Imperial German military proof and another indiscernible 2-digit set of numbers (likely during the period). Hold-open latch is unnumbered. MAGS: 1 matching 8-rd. with aluminum plug. Plug was renumbered, seemly during the period, and is marked "2/ 8472/ 517" above a police Starburst/K proof. CONDITION: metal components retain the vast majority of their original (or period police arsenal applied) blue finish, exhibiting some light to mild edge wear, a few scattered small spots of light wear, as well as some scattered spots of light surface oxidation overall. Strawed parts are excellent as reheated. Bore is bright, exhibiting consistent light pitting, while retaining strong rifling throughout. Proper manual mechanics. Grips are very good to excellent, showing some spots of smoothing, as well as some small nicks and minor handling marks overall. (25-6061/MLW). CURIO. $1,000-1,500.
