Cal. 69. S# 6011. Bbl. 34" rnd. bbl. w/ bayonet mounting stud on right front. Standard configuration, 3 groove rifling & long range ladder sight. Breech area is dated 1863 on top flat w/ “V”, “P” & eagle proofs on left flat. The number “6011” is on tang to match Collins supplied bayonet (not present). Ramrod is of correct type. Second style lock plate is dated 1863 on tail, has eagle over “U.S.” at center & is marked “WHITNEY-VILLE” under bolster. Trigger guard has finger spur. Rifle is complete furniture w/ “US” & “U” marks, inspector’s initials “FCW” (Frank C. Warner) are on left side. CONDITION: good overall. Metal parts considerably stained showing old cleaning, are mostly gray & brown patina. Stock w/ most of its dark original oil finish. Numerous scattered dents & marks. Inspector’s mark is clear. Shiny bore w/ scattered pitting. Lock is good. (01-18639/MGM). ANTIQUE. $1,500-2,500.
