Cal. 45. NSN. Bbl. 9 1/2" tapered round with German silver blade font sight is engraved "W. Buchele". William Buchele, 1895-1977, was a renowned builder of contemporary flintlock and percussion rifles and pistols. He is known as a a co-author of the book "Recreating the American Long Rifle". with George Shumway and Peter Alexander. The engraved trade lock is marked "MASLIN / WARRANTED". Plain trigger. Pin fastened curly maple stock has relief carving around the lock, sideplate, thimble and ramrod channel areas. Engraved German silver ornamentation consists of a Liberty Bell on the wrist and sharply pointed curled ornamental plates on both sides of the wrist. Long tang rounded brass butt cap has floral pattern engraving. Additional brass fittings include the trigger guard, engraved sideplate, thimble and single pipe holding the hardwood ramrod. CONDITON: fine. Bbl & lock retain most of their finely browned finish. Very good stock finish shows small spot of staining on left wrist. Forward leading points of the ornamental wrist plates are bent causing sharp protrusions. Sound lock. Very good bright bore. (01-27950/DS). ANTIQUE. $1,750-2,500.
