CAVALRY ARCHIVE. William B. Caton (1847-1941) William was only 13 years old when he joined the cavalry and served originally as Merrill's bugler. He served the entire war being discharged at Nashville September of 1865. Archive has 3 CDVs of Caton, one he is wearing musician's shell jacket, saber belt, cavalry saber, holding bugle with long inscription written by Caton in 1930. His cap insignia, GAR membership medal, well-worn gold GAR watch fob inscribed "WB Caton Co. E / Merrill's Horse", 2 inscribed 75th anniversary boxed Gettysburg reunion medals, Department of Kansas reunion badge are part of lot. The remaining archive is newspaper articles, photographs of Caton later in life, 1938 Gettysburg ephemera. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: newspaper articles, obituaries, copies of service records, biography, research, and limited edition Merrill Cavalry book: "WITH MERRILLS CAVALRY…" Baird, 1981.
