Cal. 34. S# NSN. Bbl. 30' heavy non tapered octagon (1" across flats) with low profile brass blade front and semi-buckhorn fixed rear. Mfg. 1844-1847 in Pittsburgh, PA; (Craig was born in England) moved to CA in 1857 and back to PA in 1860. Craig had many notable gunsmiths that worked for him at both locations. Fiddleback maple stock having brass for triggerguard, ramrod tubes, patchbox and buttplate. Double set triggers. Top of barrel marked "Wm. Craig" over "Pittsburgh" (g is faint and h not visible). Lock markings in oval form barely visible; "ELL" showing on end of top plus "WARRANTED" on bottom. CONDITION: fair overall with stock damage to include break by mid ramrod tube, crack on left side opposite lock, replacement wood behind bolster plus some chips; most notable on left by mid ramrod tube. Poor bore with oxidation; distinct rifling. (01-21663/NW). ANTIQUE. $400-600.
