Cal. 38. NSN. Bbl. 29 1/2", heavy, octagonal. Beach-style front sight. V-notch rear sight. Upper tang has two small screws present, likely for sight mounting. Loxk marked "WILLIAM READ BOSTON". Lock, upper tang, and rear of the bbl. have floral engraving. Lower tang is brass with engraving. Finger curl trigger guard, buttplate, left side stock disc, and fancy patchbox are silver with floral engraving. Walnut half stock with silver key escutcheon. A German silver plate is present on top of the disc. Silver ramrod thimble with two brass pipes. A brass-tipped wooden ramrod is present. CONDITION: stock has added varnish with a couple long repaired cracks on the left side, scattered dings, and handling wear. Silver parts show some oxidation and dings. Balance of metal is mostly a dull gray patina with scattered oxidation, dings, and some varnish overruns. Bore has scattered pitting and oxidation but evident rifling.
