SET SINGLE SHOT RIFLE. Cal. 32-40 & 22-15. S# 5131. Bbl. 1 32-40. 29 1/2" octagon to round w/ a Wind-Gauge globe front sight. Bbl. 2 22-15. 28" octagon to round w/ combination front sight & filler in rear dovetail. Top bbl. flats are engraved "Wm. Wurffein". Left flats are engraved "Phila. Pa. U. S. A.". Right flats have patent date of June 24th, 1882. Break open tip-up style action w/ thumb lever release located on top tang ahead of mid range Vernier tang sight. Action has full coverage vine type foliate scroll w/ fancy borders having American eagle & flags around the breech. Complimenting scroll engravings extends to breech end & octagon to round transition areas of both bbls. w/ shooting stars extending onto the round portion of both bbls. Splinter forearm & hard rubber capped pistol grip stock of fancy walnut w/ hand checkering. LOP: 13 7/8" checkered hard rubber buttplate. WEIGHT w/ 32-40 bbl: 8 lbs, 2.2 ozs. Estimated quantity of a few thousand, mfg. 1880s-1890s. CONDITION: fine. Both bbls. retain over 90% blue showing edge wear. Action has faded to gray. Wood has good original finish & checkering showing a few small marks. 32-40 bbl. has a dark bore retaining sound rifling. 22-15 bbl. has a bright bore w/ strong rifling.
