Cal. 38-40. S# 302649B. Bbl. 20" octagon. Lyman no. 4 hunting front sight, Marbles folding leaf rear sight, missing sighting leaf w/ a combination tang sight. Full length tubular mag. Correct 8 3/8" short rifle forearm & straight grip walnut stock w/ crescent steel trapdoor buttplate. Left side of stock has hand-carved initials "HR". UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: letter from the Cody Firearms Museum detailing the following information, "Type: Rifle / Caliber: 38 / Barrel Type: Octagon / Barrel Length: 20 inches / Trigger: Plain / Sights: Lyman rear / Casehardened / Received in warehouse on August 20, 1889 / Shipped from warehouse on August 21, 1889, Order number 554". CONDITION: rifle retains some dull blue in protected areas w/ balance fading to brown. Sanded wood has dark worn appearance w/ added wood repair right of top tang. Some action screws are replacement. Lower tang screw is missing. Sound mechanics. Bore retains good rifling showing small spots of light pitting. (01-25472/DS). ANTIQUE. $2,500-3,500.
