ACTION RIFLE. Cal. 44 WCF. S# 25989. Bbl. 24" octagon, with Lyman replacement bead front sight and sporting rear sight. Full length mag. Action has mortise dust cover, with coarse checkered thumbprint. Single set trigger. Action has custom hand engraving. Right sideplate features a circular vignette with a whitetail buck. Left sideplate depicts a caribou and bull moose. Front and rear receiver areas, as well as sideplates have foliate scroll highlights with balance being covered with punch dot backgrounds. Complimentary engraving extends to forearm cap and crescent steel trapdoor buttplate. Action, cap, and buttplate have custom nickel finish. Single X grade checkered fancy walnut forearm and straight grip stock. Left inside of lower tang is marked with "X" wood grade marking, followed by assembly # "224". Top tang channel of stock has matching assembly # "224". UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: Cody Firearms Museum record stating "Rifle/ Octagon barrel/ Set trigger/ Blued/ Received in the warehouse on June 7, 1876/ Shipped from warehouse on January 3, 1877". This example is also accompanied by a 4-piece cleaning rod held in stock compartment. CONDITION: bbl. and mag. tube retain 70% lightly worn blue, showing scratches and marks. Action and fittings have very good custom nickel plated finish. Stocks show light finish and checkering wear, with scattered scratches, marks, and small dents. Sound action, with properly functioning set trigger. Bore is generally bright with strong rifling, showing a few small spots of light pitting. PROVENANCE: Norman Olliff Estate. (01-27241/DS).
