Cal. 38-56 WCF. S# 54914. Bbl. 26" oct. Lyman No. 4 ivory bead hunting front sight w/ folding leaf ivory bar rear sight & combination tang sight. Full length mag. Blue finish w/ case colored action. Forearm & pistol grip stock of XXX grade fancy walnut featuring style H hand checkering, ebony pistol grip insert & crescent steel buttplate. Left side of lower tang has assembly # "38" followed by "XXX" wood grade marking. Top tang channel of stock has matching assembly # "38" & additional marking "40". UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: Cody Firearms Museum letter providing the following information "Serial number applied on April 17, 1891 / Type: Rifle / Caliber: 38/56 / Barrel Type: Octagon / Trigger: Plain / Checkered stock, Pistol grip / Received in warehouse on April 23, 1891 / Shipped from warehouse on April 24, 1891, Order number 3438 / Repair and Return on May 06, 1896, Order number 10396". CONDITION: bbl. & mag. tube retain over 80% lightly faded blue showing faint edge wear & scattered sm. marks. Action, buttplate & forearm cap retain sm. amounts of lightly visible case colors w/ balance fading to gray & showing scattered spots of corrosion. Wood has good original finish showing scattered scratches & marks w/ lightly worn checkering. Sound mechanics. Bore retains sound rifling w/ area of light pitting near muzzle. (01-18820/DS).
