TARGET RIFLE. Cal. 30 BR (Bench Rest, .330 Neck). S# 50510A. Bbl. 23 3/4" stainless by S. G. & Y. Rifles having acid etched decorative pattern resembling carbon fiber plus 11 degree target crown; tapers 1.250" to .827". Mfg. at very end of Model 54 production (late 1930's) with checkered custom safety lever, Canjar set trigger and gunsmith added bolt stop (left rear of action). Bolt handle is swept back with pear shaped knob. Fitted with natural aluminum finished scope bases of Kelbly style. Consignor states stock is Model 70 Marksman model having barrel fully floated, Pachmayr White Line rifle pad and thumbnail shaped 3/8" thick (2 7/8" wide by 3 1/2" long) aluminum plate attached to the standard rail on forend for the purpose of proper positioning on a front bench rest. Alloy triggerguard assembly from Pre-64 Model 70 Featherweight; Allen head attachment screws. Fine combo in arguably the most accurate of 30 caliber chamberings. CONDITION: Action, barrel exterior and bore are near excellent. Function wear on bolt plus thinning and high edge wear on triggerguard assembly. Stock set with numerous light to medium marks and appearance of being refinished; 12 1/2" LOP. (24-1791/NW). MODERN. $500-750.
