RIFLE. Cal. 44 HRF. S# 105724. Bbl. 24" octagon w/ rocky mountain front sight w/ folding leaf rear sight. Walnut forearm & straight grip stock w/ brass crescent buttplate & sling swivels. This fine rifle features generous coverage of unsigned period engraving indicative of Louis D. Nimschke's work. Circular scene on right sideplate features a running bull elk. Left sideplate features a scene w/ a bugling bull elk. Balance of the receiver sides are covered w/ vine type foliate scroll w/ punch dot backgrounds & single line borders. Complimenting scroll extends to upper & lower receiver areas w/ an eight point star on the front receiver ring. Bottom of lifter has diamond shaped designs w/ grass highlights. Brass forearm cap has four pointed floral scroll. Peak of buttplate has fancy borders w/ scroll highlight. Walnut forearm & straight grip stock w/ sling swivels. S# indicates 1872 mfg. CONDITION: brass receiver & fittings exhibit a very pleasing mild patina, retaining sharp engraving details showing scattered small marks. Bbl. & mag. tube blue are fading to a plump brown, showing small dents & spots of very light pitting w/ wrench marks at breech end. Sound action. Bore retains strong rifling, showing scattered small spots of darkness or very light pitting. (01-26396/DS). ANTIQUE. $20,000-27,500.
