ACTION RIFLE. Cal. 44 CF. S# 124055. Bbl. 24" octagon w/ German silver blade front sight & graduated leaf rear sight. Upgraded rifle w/ stunning full coverage hand engraving. Circular vignettes on right side of action include one w/ bull & cow elk, a squirrel & bear w/ two cubs. Vignettes on left side of action include a bison, a pointing dog w/ buck & doe deer. Top of receiver has an eagle on the front receiver ring w/ a mountain lion behind the ejection port. The rest of the action is completely covered w/ vine type foliate scroll, punch dot backgrounds & ornate borders. Fine scroll engraving w/ punch dot backgrounds extends to the crescent steel buttplate, forearm cap & mag. band. Buttplate features a mountain goat at peak w/ a bighorn ram at trapdoor. Action, buttplate, forearm cap & mag. band are gold plated. Silver plated bbl. has matching scroll engraving on the upper three flats extending 11 1/2" from the breach end & 3 1/4" from the muzzle end. Bottom of receiver between lifter & lever is marked w/ apparent engraver's signature "JU". Forearm of nicely grained walnut & straight grip stock of very fancy walnut. S# indicates 1874 mfg. CONDITION: action & fittings retain 90% lightly worn gold finish. Bbl. & mag. tube retain 90% silver finish, showing a spotted light tarnish. Refinished forearm shows scratches & marks. Heavily sanded & refinished stock has two breaks through the wrist & comb areas w/ added wood spliced on both sides in an attempt to make repairs. Lever will not completely close due to over-length tang screw. Lifter sometimes fails to retract when closing action. Dark lightly pitted bore w/ worn rifling. (01-26433/DS). ANTIQUE. $4,000-6,000.
