FINISHED LEVER ACTION RIFLE. Cal. 44 HRF. S# 20345 found behind the trigger. Bbl. 24" octagon. Sporting front sight w/ a fixed full buckhorn front sight having nearly touching points. Full length mag. Action, forearm cap & brass crescent trapdoor buttplate are silver finished. Top of receiver is inscribed "E. J. TURNER". Walnut forearm & straight grip stock w/ sling swivels. Mfg. 1869. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: census information printed from the internet referring to Elijah J Turner, born 1825-1826 in Marion district, South Carolina, who may or may not be the EJ Turner named on the rifle. CONDITION: bbl. & mag. tube blue are fading to brown showing scattered spots of light corrosion. Action & forearm cap retain 70% silver finish having acquired a pleasing dark tarnish. Buttplate retains traces of silver finish. Wood has moderately worn finish showing scattered dents & handling marks. Dark bore shows scattered pitting over intact rifling. (01-26385/DS).
