Cal. 38-55. S#. 4995. The highly collectable 1st model rifles are found in S# range 1-7000, but not consecutively. After No. 3000, second model features are predominate. First model rifles are most readily identified by the outside cartridge guide screws on both sides of the receiver. Bbl. 26" octagon. Original sporting sights. Full length mag. Blue finish with case colored hammer & lever. Walnut forend & straight grip stock with crescent steel buttplate. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: Cody Firearms Museum letter stating: "Type: Rifle / Caliber: 38/55 / Barrel Type: Octagon / Trigger : Plain / Received in warehouse on august 5, 1895 / Shipped from warehouse on august 7, 1895, Order number 17082." CONDITION: Bbl. & mag. tube have 60% dull original blue with some fading to brown patina showing edge wear. Action shows 30% blue fading to brown with carry wear. Unsanded wood has an added coat of blistering finish over wear, scratches, dents & marks. Sound action. Dark bore retains sound rifling. (01-21667/DS). ANTIQUE. $4,000-6,000.
