RIFLE. Cal. 236 U.S.N. (6mm). S#. 13287. Bbl. 24" tapered round. Pinned white bead blade front sight w/ bolt mounted flat plate peep. Box magazine accepts single cartridges or stripper clips. Blue finish. Schnabel tipped walnut sporter stock features finger groove forend, hard rubber grip cap, & checkered steel buttplate. Bottom of forend & stock grip are factory checkered. Checkering was available on special order. The U.S. Navy ordered 15,000 Lee muskets in 1895 of approx 20,000 Lee's produced only 1700 were sporting rifles. UNATTACHED ACCESORIES: Waddy Colvert Firearms Research letter dated August 15, 2006 states "The manufacturer's data for Model Lee, serial number 13287, extracted from the Winchester records are as follows, / Sporting Rifle / 6mm Caliber / Received in warehouse June 2, 1898 / "To Russ" (Custom Shop) December 28,1903 / Improvemnts January 5, 1894 / "To Russ Stock" March 8, 1915 / Shipped from warehouse October 11, 1915, order number 749139". CONDITON: nice original rifle retaining over 90% lightly worn blue. Wood has lightly worn finish & checkering showing scattered dents & marks. Bore has slightly darkened appearance w/ sound rifling.
