CARBINE. Cal. 44-40 WCF. S# 465547B. Bbl 20". Model 1873 Saddle Ring Carbine manufactured by Winchester in 1893. The top of the round barrel is stamped with Winchester's 2 line address, with the caliber designation stamped over the top of the breech. Underside of brass elevator is marked "44 CAL". Metal components exhibit a blued finish. Smooth plain straight grip buttstock, with plain wood forend. Standard blade front sight with ladder rear sight graduated 2-10. CONDITION: metal components retain fair amounts of their original factory blue finish, exhibiting wear and thinning overall that shows through to pleasant brown and gray patinas, with areas of pitting present over the receiver. Very bright bore, exhibiting consistent mild pitting and strong rifling throughout. Wood furniture shows scattered marks and minor impressions from storage and handling, but otherwise remains sturdy and serviceable. PROVENANCE: Collection of Horst Kreiner. (01-24029/MLW).
