BREECHLOADING RIFLE. Cal. 25 RF. S# 48075. Bbl. 26". Model 1885 Low Wall single shot breechloading rifle mfg. by Winchester, circa. 1890-1891. Top flat of the octagonal bbl. is marked with Winchester's mfg. information, with the cal. designation marked towards the breech. Plain wood straight grip buttstock and ebony inlaid schnabel tip forend appear to have been sanded and revarnished at one time. Dovetailed German silver blade front sight, with dovetailed V-notch rear sight. CONDITION: metal components retain a mottled gray patina, with some spots/areas of light pitting present overall. Dark bore, exhibiting consistent moderate pitting, while retaining fair to good rifling throughout. Wood furniture shows some superficial marks and impressions from handling and storage, but otherwise remains sturdy and serviceable. Buttstock exhibits several repairs at and around the upper receiver tang, with the right side of the forend exhibiting a repair that stems from the schnabel tip. PROVENANCE: Estate of Russell Dickerman. (01-27098/MLW). ANTIQUE. $500-800.
