ACTION RIFLE WITH FACTORY LETTER. Cal. 38-55. S# 255480. Bbl. 22" lightweight tapered rnd. of takedown style. Ramp mounted combination front sight, elevator adj. sporting rear sight with combination tang sight. 3/4 length takedown mag. tube. Blue finish with case colored hammer and lever. 8 3/4" short rifle length forearm and hard rubber capped pistol grip stock of XX fancy walnut with hard rubber buttplate. Stock and forearm have factory style H checkering. Left inside lower tang is marked with assembly # "20565", followed by wood grade marking "XX", and the letter "R". Top tang channel of stock has partially visible assembly # that appears to be different than the tang. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: Cody Firearms record stating "Type: Rifle/ Caliber 38/55/ Barrel Type: Round/ Barrel Length: 22 inches/ Extra Light/ Trigger: Plain/ Checkered stock, Pistol grip/ 3/4 Magazine/ Shotgun butt, Rubber/ Takedown/ Nickel steel/ Received in warehouse on July 18, 1905/ Shipped from warehouse on September 02, 1905, Order number 10491". CONDITION: bbl. and mag. tube finish have faded to gray, and mag. tube shows lighter spotting of brown patina. Action retains 70% fading blue, showing carry and edge wear, with scattered light pitting and handling marks. Hammer and lever retain some visible case colors. Stock and forearm show moderate finish and checkering wear, with numerous scratches and handling marks. Mechanically fine. Bore is bright, with lightly worn rifling. (25-3575/DS). CURIO. $5,000-7,500.
