CARBINE WITH UNUSUAL PROOF & FACTORY LETTER. Cal. 30 WCF. S# 25183. Bbl 20". Model 1894 manufactured by Winchester in 1897. Barrel is stamped with Winchester's 2 line address over the top, with an unusual (seemingly torch-like) proof stamped just before the caliber, as well as on the comb of the buttstock, just ahead of the buttplate tang. Right side of buttstock is lightly inscribed "Scotty". Metal components are blued, with the buttstock and forend being comprised of solid wood. German silver blade front sight, with 3 leaf rear sight, as well as a flip up aperture rear sight. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: factory letter indicating that the serial number for this rifle was applied on August 18th and that the rifle was received in the warehouse on August 27th of 1897. CONDITION: metal components retain traces of their original factory blue finish, with the balance exhibiting mottled gray and brown patinas, with areas of pitting and surface oxidation present primarily on the receiver. Bore is bright, exhibiting oxidation and pitting in the lands, and good rifling throughout. Wood furniture shows scattered marks and impressions from storage and handling, but otherwise remains sturdy and serviceable. (01-24109/MLW). ANTIQUE. $1,000-1,500.
