CARBINE. Cal. 30-40 Krag. S# 414416. Bbl. 22". Model 1895 lever action saddle ring carbine mfg. by Winchester in 1925. Top of the receiver is marked ".30/ ARMY", with Winchester's mfg. and patent information marked on the left. Metal components exhibit a blue finish. Plain wood pistol grip buttstock with carbine trap door buttplate, grooved carbine length forend, and handguard. Pinned blade front sight with ladder rear sight graduated "3", "5", "7", "8", "9", and "10". Left side of the receiver is fitted with a lanyard ring stud. Upper receiver tang has been drilled for a tang rear sight. Plug screw is absent. CONDITION: receiver retains trace to fair amounts of its original blue finish, with the balance exhibiting a gray/brown patina and some scattered spots of light to mild surface oxidation, as well as areas of matching wear extending to the mag. housing and lever. Bbl. retains the majority of its original factory blue finish, exhibiting mild to moderate dark surface oxidation and pitting around the muzzle. Bbl. band retains a mostly gray/brown patina. Bright bore, retaining well defined rifling throughout. Proper manual mechanics. Wood furniture shows scattered marks and impressions from handling and storage, but otherwise remains sturdy and serviceable. (25-4438/MLW). CURIO. $900-1,400.
